You're very close, if my 124 diesel knowledge applies. The KLIMA relay compares engine speed to compressor speed to decide if the serpentine belt is slipping. Sounds like that signal has been interrupted. Could be bad speed coil on the compressor, bad KLIMA, or bad engine speed pick-up. Could also be bad clutch on the compressor, or bad PBU.
