My recollections are the same.

I had the steering box replaced on the 1987 300TD and, after about a week, the 
PS started moaning on turns, low oil.

Mobil 1 ATF replaced the std. p/s fluid and the leakage slowed to once every 
couple of months or so.

Now it has gone 3.5 months and is still half full.

I have a vague recollection that Marshall Booth said that switching to
synthetic oil might make an engine leak more at the outset, but that it
would be fine after some time.
Anyone else recall this or am I lost in space?
