I don't remember what year your car is but in my '83 240D I used 0w40, 5w40 and
15w50. The BIG difference was that 0w40 leaked out way worse. The 15w50 still
leaks out but not as bad. At ~10F recently it seems the car starts maybe a
little harder with 15w50 than it did with 5w40 but thats hard to quantify. I
could detect NO difference between 0w40 and 5w40.
My '85 190D starts just fine with 15w50.
No matter what you gotta figure that the 15w50 will be alot thinner than dino
15w40 would be at a similar temp. At anything under freezing 15w40 dino oil
becomes honey real quick.

My Indy (who uses all M1 products) INSISTS that T&SUV/delvac 1/turbo
diesel truck is too thin for my car in MO, even in winter since it does
not get THAT cold. Is he just nuts?

ON THE OTHER HAND, is M1 15W-50 TOO THICK to use in Western Missouri
winter, wearing out my engine further at start up?

I do not have a leaking oil problem (I did until about 10,000 miles
of M1 15W-50).

  Thoughts o' wise men?

  Chris
