None of those studies are controlled for reduction in trans fats, so they are
meaningless.

In the stuff I read, there is a single study done some time ago (drug company
funded) that indicates there is any effect on longevity, the others do not show
any significant effect.

None of them control for diet and exercise changes, nor weight loss, all part
of the cardiac "fitness improvement"

Which means, of course, that they are of no value at all.

I have a family history of severe heart disease on my dad's side (they tend not
to make it past 50), although on my Mom's there is none. Unless we all managed
to get Mom's cardiac genes, there is something besides heredity here as none of
us have any coronary artery disease at all as far as I know, and at least two
of us have had cardiac caths to prove it. My other brother had an
echocardiogram done a few years back after an episode of temporary global
amnesia (after a severe migraine, not that unusual). Ditto on the no coronary
artery disease. We all eat healthy since my dad popped of when we were pretty
young.
