The reason that the 124 looks like most modern cars is that every asian car built in the past 15-18 years I can think of has essential body style features copied from the 124 or the 140. The exception is the miata and its knock-offs. Many "American" cars follow the same pattern of following Mercedes Benz. I put American in quotes because some are aisian cars. Ford focus and probe come to mind.
