By definition you don't know the long term outcomes until the long term is up.
Similarly, the side effects are not always known until a vaccine or medication is released to the general population, as safety studies are done in limited numbers of subjects. It will be really interesting to follow all the various candidates as they go through trials. It is great to see vaccines getting some positive air time and see people excited about them and supportive for a change.
