Sorry if the following has been suggested already, but have your clients tried:

a) disabling video acceleration (usually using a tab in the display 
properties specific to the video card/drivers)

b) setting QuickTime to run in "safe mode" only (GDI only) using the 
'video settings' of the QT control panel.

On odd machines I've found the graphics adaptor's drivers cause hangs 
with QuickTime when any level of video acceleration is enabled.  This 
can be overcome in some (but not all) circumstances with newer 
drivers.  Where this doesn't provide a solution, I've found switching 
QT to run in 'safe mode' can make such problems disappear.

Both the above can lead to reduced video/QT performance and may stop 
extra video features from working.  However, they can lead to stable 
QT playback by way of compensation!
