Yeah, I tried that originally and saw a wealth of options, googling
some of them indicated that most of these solutions are geared toward
music and album management, so I figured I'd fish fop strong opinions,
since those tend to be functional solutions. ;-)  I played around with
it last night, even reformatted the iPod so that I'd have a clean
slate to work with.  Some of these programs don't have an intuitive
way to manage the podcasts, other download and sync with the iPod, but
list each episode in the music section under it's own artist, album,
and song title, others will download podcasts but can't see my iPod.
I ultimately ended up re-syncing with the windows computer for the
time being.  Thankfully it's Friday though so I'll have plenty of time
tonight to fool around with getting this to work the way I want.
