Well, OpenOffice is pretty good, but it's still not entirely transparent when trading files with MS Office, especially Impress/PowerPoint. Also, there's no good way to deal with Visio files. That's just a couple of examples. ODF may provide some help in the (hopefully near) future, but that's the current state, and there are some "chicken or the egg" issues. Linux itself is certainly "ready for the desktop" as an OS, but some of the apps still aren't covered well, mostly due to closed document formats. IMHO yadda yadda _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Jun 4 - Sqeak! and eToys Jul 2 - KVM (Tenative) Aug 6 - Zenos Sep 3 - TBD
