Since I initiated this thread and no one seems to have gotten my drift let me renew the attempt. First off let me say that it was not my intent to black ball the Mandriva organization but to find out what I was missing. In actuality from Mandrake 8.2 on ward my experience with the sales and support operation has been a disaster. While the Mandrake site looked realistic enough a check of the HTML pointers and their results was a confusing mess. The 10.1 package did contain a screen with some graphics and HTML that permitted relatively automatic access to ones account, help, down loads, updates and support. I got rather used to it. In many ways it was superior to anything Windows had. When the name changed to Mandriva one might think they would update the above screen and communicate with Mandriva. That did not happen. What they did was go back to the older screens to communicate with the public. While there were many problems with the original screens and their HTML they did nothing to correct problems. What they did do was to change everything that the screens were supposed to access. The result was simply to add to the confusion already implemented. On at least two occasions I tried to buy the hard copy of the powerpack all I accomplished was to get caught up in the maze of disconnects that involved the store, the US outlet in CA, PayPal, the international banking community and Mandriva's representatives around France and the US. Unfortunately most of these people can not read or write rationally in English. Whether by intent of incompetence it amounts to one big scam. At various times they have asked for criticism and comments. I have obliged and I have tried to be civil about it in spite of the evidence that I was dealing with a nest of idiots. My original query was intended to draw out some idea of other peoples experiences. That is still my desire. That said. In the past week I have found some other URL's and links to indicate that the organization has undergone significant internal change. I did find a way to download something. I do not yet know what I have. What I did find was that their security system has been broken for some months to years. By taking the trusting approach I got what I got. Most recently I received a message containing a new face for Mandriva. This one looks like it might be rational. I will play with it for a while and perhaps I will forward it to the mhvlug for others to scrutinize.
