FWIW, I've been using an Asus R1F (which is a hybrid laptop/tablet) for
a few years, which I dual boot Windows/Linux. The tablet support in
Linux has been skimpy for years, but I was surprised to see that with
Ubuntu 10.04, it now works flawlessly - including the stylus and auto
screen rotation when converting to tablet mode.

Of course the big brands HP, Gateway, etc. which can be hit or miss with
network and video in Linux.
I have been messing around with some older hardware.
WebDT366 is a low power tablet from many years ago. The manufacturer
dtresearch
<http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBoQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dtresearch.com%2F&ei=z00lTI_2IMWAlAeN59jyAg&usg=AFQjCNFHUAOUEbRXkRmIQedpWotaVNz7EA>
is still producing newer more powerful models (not cheap though). The
touch panel is produced by Penmount <http://www.penmount.com/>.
If you are interested, check out webdt.org <http://webdt.org/> where
folks get together to discuss the product line.
Anyway I have Debian running with LXDE and full hardware support. This
is not a powerhouse model WebDT366 has only 1 USB 1.0 port, AMD Geode
400Mhz, 256MB RAM, and a tiny 512MB internal Flash drive. It is limited
but still fun and only ~ $100 used on ebay. The weak point is video, but
the DT360 had better hardware for that for ~ $250.
These are most likely not what you're in the market for, but just
throwing it out there.
With ThinkPads having great Linux support, I would hope their tablets
had good support for Linux also (just never searched myself).

Does anyone have any experience with tablet PC's and linux? I'm
looking at netbooks and noticed the tablets, figured something like
that would be nice. But all the models that catch my eye don't
mention anything about linux support and the comments tend to discuss
how poorly the machine handles linux. Just wondering if linux is in
the tablet game yet or if this is something I should wait on.
