While Ubuntu is great I feel it tries to mirror OSX and is "weird" for a lot of people I show. For windows users I feel mint is a better match, its based off Ubuntu but has its own look. Its simple things like one panel set at the bottom, a favorites applications list in the "start" menu which you customize by rightclicking and add to favorites, a "control panel" section, the compiz fusion settings manager preinstalled a great way to wow, adobe flash preinstalled (whether you think it good it beats having to walk someone unfamiliar through installing through activex and 90% of people "need" it) all of this allows me to install Linux without an internet connection and not get a call later once the person finally gets online. Again since its based off Ubuntu all the standard Ubuntu repositories are there but in addition they also have their own layout for installing called software manager which points to the same stuff but supports ratings which can help people make choices who are unfamiliar with which such and such software is "best".
