I was going to suggest the same thing. Before I attended my first
MHVLUG meeting, I had no idea what it would be like, but the "Linux" in
the name made it clear what it would be about. Also, "LUG" seems to be
the generally used term and is the most common way of searching for or
describing groups of this type. I think any other name would require an
explanation every time it was used -- either that, or people would call
it a LUG no matter what its official name was.
BTW, I learned about the existence of both MHVLUG and MHCUG by doing a
Google search for:
"user group" Poughkeepsie OR Dutchess
and that search still pulls up both groups within the first four results.
