... as long as your power remains reliable.  If you have a power outage, then 
the link goes down, and you'll likely get a different IP when the power comes 
back.  That's the problem my friend has -- because LinkSys and other low-power 
routers make a bare "give me an IP" DHCP request, rather than a qualified 
"give me the same IP I had before if it's available" DHCP request.

If you're using a Linux box for your router, then it /is/ smart enough to make 
the latter kind of DHCP request, and so you'll get the same IP back again 
after a power outage if that IP is still available.
