Unity and Ubuntu 11.04 remains somewhat a topic of strife in the Linux community right now, as we talked a bit about at the meeting last night, especially the lack of customizability. It turns out this isn't true, but customizing is hidden a bit more. http://www.webupd8.org/2011/04/things-to-tweak-fix-after-installing.html provides a lot of good info on ways to tweak your desktop.

Like I said last night, Unity's current biggest sin in my mind was that it wasn't actually ready for release. It needs more time to bake out.

Other hints and tips are welcome on this thread, but please refrain from long rants without productive tips, the internet is all full up on those already. :)
