I'll just note that I found Fedora 17 acceptable, as was OpenSuSE 12.1,
Mint Debian, Mint 13, and many others.

Since this is 32-bit hardware (P4) then the x86_64 / amd64 version won't work.
Feel free to verify that, though. :-P The 32-bit versions of Linux are Y2K
safe until 2038, so there's nothing wrong with sticking with 32-bit for now.

My parents are both using P4 systems with KDE and are still happy with them.
I also have a P4 Desktop at home with KDE and also find it works okay. No
need to change it if it still works for you. ;-)

New Stuff comes with the possible issue of dealing with hardware that isn't
supported by the Linux kernel yet, so going New sometimes comes with it's own
set of headaches.

Cool.

I made the trip to Long Island and fixed the router, using someone else's pre-
made "Debian for Alix" image this time:

Dix Hills has tree rubbish in the streets all over the place -- looks crazy.
Some houses across the street from my parents still don't have power. I heard
a report via the fire department radio that the death count in Statten Island
is 132 so far -- mostly by drowning, a few by electrocution in seawater that
flooded homes.

I should be back in Middletown by Monday afternoon. Feel free to call me on
the phone anytime today if you want to try troubleshooting it verbally.
