When I first heard this term years back, I knew it was a very one-sided
advantage! Yeah - I know why it is haoppening and expected it - quite
frankly, I think I would have b een astounded if it HAD worked!

This is why I'm recommending /shrinking/ the Windows8 installation as-it-is

Yeah - this is what I did sometime back on the old Dell so it is considered
standard to me. Issue is the new SSD and how to employ it really.

Agreed, but at the moment it is the only way I see to get a "pure" Linux
system and allow for a W8 (or W7) VB - which is what I think I would prefer
- but won't insist on - at least not right away.

To be clear - at this time, I do not want much access to W8 - but I DO want
primarily Linux. The option for "swapping in" the old disk would be a
strictly last-choice issue. What I don't want to do though is totally loose
my access to W8 - mostly because I am a Cheap Bastard (tm) and don't want
to have to purchase this ripoff product again just so I
can successfully run Photoshop someday :-)

Gonna need to come up with an ISO I think - or just work with dual-boot.
that doesn't worry me.

Cool. I may get up the fortitude to try that today. I do have an external
bay for the original drive and I think that Ubuntu easily reaches out and
uses other drives without modification. At least, it did when I put 12 on
my Dell. That was really quite nice.

Prepare to cover me! I'm Going In!
