At the other end of the scale, we run a school every spring where you can bring out your Miata (only!) with NO roll bar. It helps that the organizer of the school is also the liason with the insurer for most of the car clubs in northern California. It's a chance for people to come out and decide if they like this stuff without cutting up their car first. There are some caveats with that... we discourage them from coming back a for a second year without getting a bar, and we tell them that a) they won't get in-car instruction, just lead/follow, and b) keep it to freeway speeds.
