Only the GT version of the Escort. The other have a crappy 1.9L motor.

Best website for junkyard searches.. or maybe Miata.net or Craigslist.

The Escort motor will work, but I think you have to swap the head (coolant
fittings wrong) and the oil dipstick??? Total guess tho.

You need to check the salvage yards in your area.

Wally seems to be the man with the links for the parts places, maybe he’ll
jump in and share.

I'm not sure why you want to look elsewhere for a motor as there are plenty
of 1.8 engines out there to be had.
i would be happy with a 1.8...i am in CT, where would these 1.8's be? miatas
tend to be sparce here

But I think you can ask Keith at FM to confirm this but you can find Kia
motors and probably Ford Escort motors.
  Keith?

Are you looking for a motor to just drop in or a motor to use to do a rebuild
job on?
at this point, i just want to drop one in and ad the rebuilt sc i have .

  thanks,

  hi,

my bad rebuilt motor died and will ave to come out..i am expecting it is shot
and guess that it will need to be replaced. since miata's are not the most
common car to find, i wonder what other 1.8 motors would fit with a minimum of
conversion work.

  tia,
  peter
