I agree, but age only makes them cheaper to a point, then "rarity" takes over and crap gets more expensive.

That's more or less the trend I was getting at. ~$1000 for a used motor with 50k on it when a crate motor runs how much these days (I remember someone telling me years ago $1500-1600, probably closer to $1800-2000 now)? Yes, things get expensive when they are rare and desired. With all the Miatas produced though, I don't think we are anywhere near the "rare" stage.
Has the Miata 1.8 crossed over into dwindling supply, perhaps?

We can thank Spec Miata, if anything, for that. It's great for Mazda in general that so many are being raced but if they weren't, I'm pretty sure that part and car prices wouldn't be where they are today. Just think back to what's happened to hard top prices...

Since getting into them, I've observed that Miatas in general have tended to be overvalued compared to vehicles of the same model year. Not many 90's vehicles can command the prices I've seen on miata.net. I guess most "enthusiast" vehicles would fall into the same category.

I'm off to VIR. Nothing like a weekend at the track to help you belittle and rationalize the cubic dollars spent on this hobby. :-)
