Similar issue here. Same symptom and I assumed it was a worn out
starter. Replaced that ... no change. Ran wire directly from the
battery to the solenoid .. bingo .. success. Removed crappy
aftermarket alarm that PO had installed (and was hacked into the
ignition wiring) and the problem went away.
