24" is excellent. Did the low numbers correspond with the same cylinders both times? Why the comp test in the first place?

Ok, back from the store. Warm motor, taped threads on the gauge, 24" steady. I am somewhat confuzzled now. Is it possible for a motor with bad compression to hold good steady vacuum? I had the compression tested twice, on two separate occasions, got bad numbers both times, and confirmed the leaking rings with a leakdown test. Also, where the heck do you pass the vacuum line through the firewall? >From the engine compartment, I can see what appears to be an unused grommet on the passenger side, but I can't see it from the floor well. Should I remove the heater motor to use that, or try drilling a new one? I don't see a good spot where I can safely fit my drill. Oh yeah, to answer your question, yes, at 19" it was steady. On Sun, Jul 6, 2008 at 2:51 PM, Dillon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: It was at 19", and would drop down to around 6" when blipping the throttle. It would then go up to about 21" as it came back to idle, and settle at 19". This was all done very quickly however as I was contorting myself under the hood to plug the t-fitting with my finger (no plug handy). The threads aren't sealed on the gauge yet either. I just test-fitted the boost/vacuum gauge and got a quick reading of ~19psi at cold idle. I have to go to the store to find some teflon tape, so we'll get a warm idle test here shortly. This is near sea level. On Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 5:20 PM, Bill Cardell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Boost gauge would do fine. If you're getting one of our kits, just get the gauge and mount ahead of time and get credited back when you take the plunge. Plenty of ports on the manifold, might have to T in, depending on whether you have cruise or not.
