Wally, the 94+ rear is MUCH bigger.  Don't you have other Miatas around?  If
so, just look at them and see if they are the same size.  If not, post a
picture of yours and we can tell.  I suspect that you blew a 1.6 one.  A
quick fix would be to swap in another 1.6 one while you're looking for a
Torsen and deciding what ratio you want.

There's a relay under the dash that controls the fuel pump prime.
Electrical gremlins getting jealous of the mechanical gremlins?  The two
problems should not be related.
