I like the Russian guy's idea to seed passenger jet fuel with tint, and ever so slightly darken the atmosphere to regulate temps. And of course there is my idea to place a large spce-umbrella satellite between us and the sun to shadow the south pole.
 
If you want to see a VERY REAL posssible disaster:  (it already happened before)
 
Carrington Event  - solar burst that puts huge surge in long wires.  In 1865 it fried telegraph stations.  Our power grid would collapse over half a continent (or more) and take years to rebuild.
