I am always puzzled by all of the ‘debate’ concerning global warming; not by either side, but that the debate would occur at all. The scientists involved are all certain to entertain as one of their basic scientific assumptions that of Darwinian evolution – the natural progression of Earth’s development and the process of natural selection. It would seem more logical to me that these scientists would all welcome global warming as simply the next step in Earth’s evolution. Attempting to either promote or detract from global warming would seem counter to the opportunity of learning, study, and research that global warming presents to the scientific community. There is no evidence that human predecessors either caused or ended the ice age; in fact, we may simply have been in an ice age thaw plateau in recent history, and now that same thaw may simply be resuming. If our lifestyle is in fact bringing about a reduction of the human tenure as leadership on planet Earth, perhaps this is simply nature’s way of escorting in the next higher level of intelligence that will use our planet more wisely. Attempting to interfere with this natural selection process is certainly self absorbed, self serving, and speaks volumes to our own self aggrandizement. Yet beyond that, it may in fact be the worst kind of unnatural interference with nature that humans have ever inflicted on our environment. Attempting to change the natural evolutionary course of events would seem contrary to genuine scientific scholarship. Jim in Tucson
