Actually the phrase "under God" was inserted by Congress during the McCarthy period in 1954 to differentiate us from the "Godless" communists. It used to be "one nation, indivisible, with liberty." It's the kind of nationalistic rhetoric one has to be concerned with lest we become what we are afraid of.
