When I was running my FMII on the track I used HP+. They were dusty, noisy, spendy, and had great initial bite and easily modulated friction.

Once I stopped going to the track I switched to HPS. They were quiet, clean, and may as well have been made of wood. Terrible feel- I really hated them.

Weird that I had such a bad experience contrary to everyone else; I've no explanation for this.

I don't think you are alone. Though not the same car, I went from HP+ to HPS on the subaru and the feel of the HPS is very soft in comparison. The initial bite is not there with a dead feeling post switching.

Its been years since I had stock pads on the WRX, but I gather the HPS feels similar or a tad better then OEM.

Reason for changing: HP+ is a high friction pad, plenty of dust (I do clean the car, but its heavy dust that does not like to be washed away easily), and the accelerated rotor wear I observed which for a street only car seemed a bit over the top.
