1955 – Bo Diddley records two songs for his first single, "Bo Diddley"
and "I'm A Man," at Universal Recording Studios in Chicago.
1955 – Elvis Presley performs two shows in Newport, Arkansas - the
first is an early evening show at the Armory, after which Elvis,
Scotty Moore and Bill Black drive over to Porky’s Rooftop Club for a
10pm show.
1959 – Sam Cooke records “Wonderful World” at Rex Productions in
Hollywood.
1959 – The Everly Brothers record “Take A Message To Mary” and “Poor
Jenny” at RCA Studios in Nashville.
1960 – Having completed his stint with the U.S. Army's 1st Medium Tank
Battalion, Elvis Presley leaves Germany to return to American civilian
life. On the way, his plane refuels at Scotland's Prestwick Airport,
marking the first and only time Elvis will set foot in the UK.
1963 – Chubby Checker hosts his "Limbo Party" concert at the Cow
Palace in San Francisco. Performers include Marvin Gaye, The Four
Seasons, Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass, Paul and Paula, The

1963 – The Four Seasons’ third single “Walk Like A Man” hits #1 on the

1964 – The Beatles begin filming their first movie - what will become
A Hard Day's Night - at Paddington railway station in London.

1969 – Paul Anka sings “Goodnight My Love” and “It Only Takes A
Moment” on The Ed Sullivan Show. Also on the show are The Checkmates
Ltd., Gwen Verdon and Nancy Ames.
1974 – Terry Jacks’ single “Seasons In The Sun” hits #1 on the
Billboard Hot 100, where it will stay for three weeks.
1975 – Paul and Linda McCartney are pulled over for running a red
light in L.A., and the police find eight ounces of marijuana in
Linda's purse. Only she is arrested, but the charges are later
dropped.
1977 – Black Sabbath appears at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow,
Scotland, with opening act Nutz.
1977 – The Barry Manilow Special, the singer’s first television
special, airs on ABC.
1977 – The Jam begins a five-week Wednesday night residency at the Red
Cow in Hammersmith.
1977 – Iggy Pop, with David Bowie on keyboards, appears at the Rainbow
Theatre in London, with opening act The Vibrators.
1979 – The three-day Havana Jam begins in Cuba at the Karl Marx
Auditorium. The festival is invitation only for cultural personalities

2007 – R&B singer Kelis is arrested in Miami Beach after the singer
starts screaming racial obscenities at two female police officers
working on an undercover operation on South Beach as prostitutes.
Kelis is charged with two charges of disorderly conduct and resisting
arrest.
2009 – Liverpool Hope University launches a Masters Degree program on
The Beatles, popular music and society, while focusing on the studio
sound and compositions of The Beatles.
