His Delta Cats, records "Rocket 88" at Sam Phillips’ Recording Service
studio in Memphis. Brenston, Turner’s sax player, also performs the
vocals.
1955 – Elvis Presley makes his television debut on the television
version of The Louisiana Hayride, airing on KSLA-TV in Shreveport.
This is Presley’s second appearance on Hayride.
1957 – DJ and rock music promoter Alan Freed tries to stump the panel
on the television game show To Tell The Truth.
1959 – Bobby Darin records "Dream Lover" at Atlantic Studios in New
York. Songwriter Neil Sedaka is featured on piano.
1960 – Elvis Presley is honorably discharged from the Army.
1962 – The Marvelettes appear on American Bandstand.
1963 – The Beatles record two songs for their next single, "From Me To
You" and “Thank You Girl.”
1965 – The Mannish Boys, featuring David Jones - soon to become Bowie

publishing long-lens photographs of Spice Girl Victoria Adams and
footballer David Beckham while they were staying at Elton's home.
2000 – Former rap artist MC Hammer becomes a preacher at the Jubilee
Christian Centre in San Jose, California.
2002 – The Osbournes premieres on MTV.
2006 – Lionel Richie’s estranged wife Diane goes to court seeking
child and spousal support of no less than $300,000 per month. Lionel
will eventually pay her $20 million in alimony.
2008 – Lou Pearlman, the man behind boy bands 'N Sync and The
Backstreet Boys, pleads guilty to a $300 million fraud scheme and for
running scams that defrauded investors and major banks for more than
20 years.
2009 – Country singer Taylor Swift appears as Haley in the “Turn,
Turn, Turn” episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on CBS.
2012 – Sony admits that 50,000 music files were stolen from its
website in a hacking job that took place in April 2011 which also
included Sony’s PlayStation Network. Michael Jackson’s entire back
catalog, as well as many unreleased songs, was stolen. Recordings by
Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon, Foo Fighters and Avril Lavigne were also
stolen, along with the personal information of 77 million PlayStation
users.
