1970 – The New York Times reports that Catholic and Protestant youth
groups are adopting The Beatles' yellow submarine image from the movie

1976 – At Monty Python's show in New York City, George Harrison joins

1979 – Lighting director for Kate Bush, Billy Duffy falls 20 feet to
his death through a stage trap door during Bush’s concert in
Southampton.
1980 – At 84 years old, George Burns becomes the oldest person to have
a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with "I Wish I Was 18 Again."
1981 – Papa John Phillips is sentenced to five years in prison for
drug possession and for aiding a pharmacist in selling fake
prescriptions. He serves only a month, agreeing to community service
in the form of anti drug lectures.
1986 – Pianist Vladimir Horowitz returns to Russia for the first time
in 60 years.
1987 – Rhode Island police arrest a teen who bites the head off a
gerbil in tribute to his hero, Ozzy Osbourne.
1987 – A record store in Callaway, Florida is forced to close down and
a part-time clerk is arrested for selling a copy of the album 2 Live
Is What We Are, by 2 Live Crew, to a 14-year old boy, after officials
had deemed the recording "obscene" because of its pornographic lyrics.
1990 – Janet Jackson receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
1991 – John Fogerty marries his second wife, Julie Lebiedzinksi, in
Indiana. They’re still married.
1992 – The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness is held
at London's Wembley Stadium, featuring Queen, Metallica, Guns 'N
Roses, Def Leppard, Spinal Tap, Bob Geldof, Tony Iommi, Roger Daltrey,
David Bowie, Robert Plant, Elton John and others.
1992 – Madonna signs a $60 million, 7-year deal with Time-Warner to
start her own multi-media entertainment company, called Maverick.
1994 – Barbara Streisand begins her first tour in 28 years at Wembley
Arena in London.
1999 – At a concert at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, Billy Joel
announces that he is retiring from touring and recording. This is the

2000 – Robert Plant leaves his handprints in cement outside the
Theatre of the Stars at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
2001 – A memorial concert for Steve Marriott is held at the London

2002 – In a dispute over Nirvana's recordings, Dave Grohl and Krist
Novoselic ask a Seattle judge to have Courtney Love submit to a
psychiatric evaluation, claiming that she is "irrational, mercurial,
self-centered, unmanageable, inconsistent and unpredictable."
2006 – After being sentenced in court to an 18 month rehabilitation
program in the morning, Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty is arrested
again later in the afternoon for drug possession.
