1953 – The musical variety show, Coke Time With Eddie Fisher debuts on
NBC-TV. The soundtrack of the show also airs on Mutual Radio stations.
The show runs for four years.
1959 – Ronnie Hawkins records "Mary Lou," "Need Your Lovin'" and six
other songs at Bell Sound Studios in New York.
1960 – Per the Payola Committee’s orders on April 21, Dick Clark
divests himself of all of his recording company interests and music
publishing rights, worth nearly $8 million.
1963 – After seeing the group the previous evening, 19-year old
publicist Andrew Loog Oldham and agent Eric Easton sign The Rolling
Stones to a management contract. As part of the deal, pianist Ian
Stewart is removed from the group’s public line-up, but continues to
perform with the band at the back of the stage and on record.
1963 – Roy Orbison records “Mean Woman Blues” at RCA Studios in
Nashville.
1965 – Ringo Starr stand-in, drummer Jimmy Nichol files for bankruptcy
in London.
1967 – The 14-hour Technicolour Dream party takes place in the Great
Hall at the Alexandra Palace in London, featuring Pink Floyd, The

1971 – In a letter to the Village Voice, Bill Graham announces that he
is closing both Fillmores.
1972 – New York Mayor John Lindsay intervenes in the immigration
proceedings against John Lennon, calling the attempts to deport
Lennon, "a grave injustice in light of Lennon's unique contributions
to music and art."
1973 – American unknown John Denver begins his self-titled BBC
television show, which makes him a star.
1973 – The "Goldrush Caravan to the Sky" concert in Stockton,
California, featuring Canned Heat, Fleetwood Mac, Elvin Bishop and
Buddy Miles, ends in a riot with 80 injuries and 50 arrests in the
crowd of 15,000.
1976 – After playing a show in Memphis, Bruce Springsteen takes a cab
to Graceland to meet Elvis.  When he is turned away at the gates, he
climbs a wall to get on the grounds, and is escorted off the property
without incident.
1977 – The Temptations leave Motown after 17 years with the label.
1977 – The Jam releases their first single, "In The City" b/w "Takin'
My Love" in the UK.
1977 – The Grateful Dead play the first of five nights at the
Palladium in New York City.
1977 – The Kinks appear at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.
1978 – P.J. Proby is fired from the musical production, Elvis, for ad-
libbing and not sticking to the script.
1980 – Black Sabbath begins their first tour with Ronnie James Dio as

1981 – Elton John pays £14,000 for 232 Goon Show scripts broadcast
during the 1950's at an auction held by Christies in London.
1988 – Patti Boyd files for divorce from Eric Clapton, citing

1995 – Tupac Shakur marries Keisha Morris inside the Clinton

1997 – Boy George is called a "professional liar" during a London
court hearing by musician Kirk Brandon, who is suing the singer over
claims in George's autobiography that the pair had slept together.
1998 – Aerosmith's Steven Tyler breaks his knee during a concert in
Anchorage, Alaska, delaying the group’s Nine Lives Tour.
2001 – In an interview, Rod Stewart suggests there be a change in
wedding vows, bringing them up to date and treated like a dog license.
Stewart said, “A change is needed because they've been in existence
for 600 years, when people used to live until they were only 35.”
2003 – The documentary about Stax Records, Only The Strong Survive,
premieres in New York City.
2003 – A $5 million hearing-loss lawsuit brought against John Fogerty
is dismissed by the judge, who tells the plaintiff that he assumed the
risk of hearing damage when he attended the concert.
2005 – Mary Travers - of Peter, Paul and Mary - undergoes a bone
marrow transplant in an attempt to stave off the leukemia that will
ultimately take her life in 2009.
2009 – A Queen fan bids $11,000 at a charity auction and wins a two
hour, one-on-one guitar lesson from Queen's guitarist, Brian May.
