1974 – A free afternoon concert is held in the parking lot of the
University of Connecticut Ice Hockey Arena in Storrs, featuring
Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Fairport Convention and Fat Back.
1975 – Pink Floyd plays their fifth and final night at the Los Angeles
Sports Arena. During the course of the five nights, 511 people were
arrested for marijuana possession.
1976 – David Bowie is detained by customs officers at the Poland-
Russian border for carrying Nazi books and regalia. He is released
after convincing them he is doing research for a movie role.
1978 – Bob Dylan records "No Time To Think," "Where Are You Tonight?"
and "True Love Tends To Forget" at Rundown Studios in Santa Monica for
his up-coming Street Legal album.
1979 – At a Duke Ellington tribute concert at UCLA, Stevie Wonder
makes a surprise appearance to sing his hit tribute, "Sir Duke."
1980 – New York City’s disco hot-spot Studio 54 closes its doors three
years and one day after opening, due to liquor license violations.
1981 – Ringo Starr marries Barbara Bach at the Marylebone Registrar's
Office in London. Paul and Linda McCartney and George and Olivia
Harrison attend the ceremony.
1982 – Frank and Moon Unit Zappa release their single, “Valley Girl”
with several different B-sides, including “No Not Now,” “Teenage
Prostitute,” “You Are What You Is” and a “Valley Girl” fade-out
version. The single will go on to become Frank’s only Top 40 single in
the U.S.
1990 – David Bowie begins a short, 7-date tour through Florida,
Georgia and North Carolina on his Sound+Vision World Tour before
heading to Japan for two shows. Bowie will return on May 20 for an
extended North American tour.
1994 – The Fillmore re-opens in San Francisco, with Smashing Pumpkins,
Ry Cooder and David Lindley, and American Music Club providing the
night's entertainment.
1994 – At 4:00 in the morning, Ace Of Base fan Manuela Behrendt breaks
into the German home of singer Jenny Berggren, holding her at
knifepoint and forcing her into her parents’ bedroom, where the three
of them finally overpower the intruder. Behrendt - who stalked the
family for a week, deflating their car’s tires and cutting their TV
cable - is arrested and charged with assault and unlawful entry.
1996 – Oasis plays the first of two nights at the Maine Road football
grounds in Manchester.
1999 – The Verve announces they have split up.
2001 – The Bee Gees appear at the Manhattan Center in New York for the
A&E cable network show, Live By Request.
2001 – Trisha Yearwood is honored by her Monticello, Georgia hometown,

2003 – Iggy Pop reunites with The Stooges for the first time in 30
years at the end of the Coachella Festival.
2004 – Elton John publicly responds to American Idol's call-in voters,
calling them "incredibly racist" when Jennifer Hudson doesn't win the

2006 – Keith Richards is hospitalized with head injuries after falling
out of a palm tree in Fiji.
2008 – During Roger Waters' performance at the Coachella Festival, the
"Pink Floyd" inflatable pig becomes un-tethered and floats away.
2009 – Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament is attacked and robbed outside the
rear entrance of Southern Tracks Recording Studios in Atlanta by three
assailants wearing black masks and brandishing knives.  The robbers
take a BlackBerry, Ament's passport, $3,000 in cash, and $4,320 worth
of other goods.
2009 – Aerosmith settles a class action suit against them brought by
angry fans when the band cancelled a show in Hawaii for a more
lucrative one in Chicago. The band agrees to do a free show in Maui
for all ticket holders of the cancelled concert.
2010 – The IRS files a tax lien against singer Judy Collins over
$116,000 in disputed taxes from her 2009 returns.
