1950 – The Frank Sinatra Show debuts on CBS-TV. Slated to run for five 
years, the show lasts 36 weeks.

1952 – After a month on air showing short music films, the re-vamped and 
more familiar dance-oriented Bandstand debuts on WFIL-TV in Philadelphia, 
with host Bob Horn.

1955 – The movie Rock ‘N’ Roll Revue - a compilation of musical television 
clips - opens in theaters in the U.S. Artists in the film include Big Joe 
Turner, Ruth Brown, The Delta Rhythm Boys, Nat “King” Cole, Martha Davis, 
The Clovers, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and others. 
The movie will open in the UK on May 14, 1956, as Harlem Rock ‘N’ Roll, and 
in Sweden as simply Rock ‘N’ Roll.

1957 – RCA Victor announces that they have already received 500,000 advance 
orders for Elvis’ Christmas Album.

1957 – George Hamilton IV records “Why Don’t They Understand” at Capitol 
Studios in New York City.

American Bandstand.
