You will be able to add new named fields to existing records. One of
these could be used to introduce symbolic links. PHP level coding

That makes sense. This is something that could be done by either
approach presented earlier.

OK. How about record deletion? Disallow when links exist (that the
target owner may not control), automatic removal of the links, or allow
broken links?
