OK, let's see if I can answer that. First, my answers apply to the current
version of Midgard (1.2.5) because I haven't installed Sitegroups yet. It
is certain that Sitegroups will offer additional functionality that isn't
offered in the current release.
Regarding your queries -- yes, you can make groups that can only read
some parts of your production Website, i.e., they are prompted with
basic authentication by their browser when they try to read certain
directories. This relates to the content, however, and not the Midgard
administration interface, which as far as I know only supports
Read-Write access.
The second question is certainly supported by Midgard -- articles can
have an attribute ("Approved") and you can write a simple PHP
script which will only display articles if they are approved.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge of Midgard will correct
any errors.
