A very simple (slightly unsafe) approach: Create only one group and put
the editor as well as all sub-editors in this group. Create only one
topic tree for all articles. This topic should be owned by the mentioned
group. Now, basically everybody can edit any article in this topic,
which is not what you want, but read on. When it comes to editing
articles, the page code (auth. required) should do the following:

* check if the user is the chief editor
* if so, then *offer* all articles for editing
* otherwise, offer all articles written by the current user for editing

This way, you don't need to create a group of its own for every editor.
The above method is unsafe if, for example, your admin site can be
accessed remotely.
