I don't think it is a simple question-as the definition of evil is relative to an age and society. I have come to believe the answer which one finds in Indian Scriptures- "Whatever your mind says is evil, is evil. " ..........I tested this definition several times and realised that it is true. Mind always knows .......and well, even the criminal justice aceepts mens rhea (guilty mind-intention to do wrong) as an essential element of 'crime' which can be in a way social equivalent of moral evil.
