Ultimately I think this must come down to an individual's interpretation of the copyright law and Google's terms and conditions. You are responsible for your own actions. If you you have some greater insight into the law -- and intend to reproduce content contributed by our members -- then good luck to you. You are on your own. The worst thing would be if the moderators gave you advice, which you acted on, and that turned out to be bad advice. Read the terms of service and draw your own conclusions on what you can and cannot do:
http://groups.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/googlegroups/terms_of_service3.html The ONLY point that needs to be clarified here is that the moderators do not and cannot grant permission for the reproduction of content (aside from the posts that they themselves write). I think this is all navel-gazing semantics, anyway; but the concern was raised and so we are dealing with it. I cannot believe the shit-storm this has generated.
