Yes- Marie was viciously attacked by pamphlets although she and the
royals certainly contributed by the lavish life of the court- empty
treasury, high taxation also due, in part, to the French support of
our American Revolution. Have long been intrigued by Marie- have an
out of print folio book on her that I treasure and received another
interesting book on her last Christmas: "Queen of Fashion- What Marie
Antoinette Wore to the Revolution" by Caroline Weber.// She also waved
off the "sans culottes" that was also used against her.
