“You cannot tell a person's mood or character by the written word-
that
is evident in body-facial expression and the voice….” – rigs

While physical cues may help in communication, as we have discussed
many times, in no way is it infallible. My most recent example was the
belief in India that showing teeth is against social mores. So, no
physical cue can be assured to be accurate communication.

As to telling a person’s mood or character by the written word, while
not more accurate than visual cues, in most cases it is quite
possible. My guess is that most of us here on ME have a fairly clear
view as to other member’s character and mood swings. I know I do.
Don’t you?

“…I think the ancient Japanese knew the truth about language- the soul
and music of language are spoken or sung. It might explain Obama's
frequency at the podium via his years tutored by Rev. Wright.” – rigs

First, I had never heard about Obama being ‘tutored’ by Wright, so I
Googled it. It was no surprise that there were numerous hits with the
exact same sound bite: “Obama tutored by Wright”. Now somehow I have
to combine your quaint characterization of “the ancient
Japanese” (apparently few today posses this knowledge) and Obama’s
“frequency at the podium”. This may take some work. Now we need to add
the term “via” along with “his years tutored by Rev. Wright.” ..to the
mix. Now I can *guess* your mood, tone, character, political stance,
intention and positions by this sentence. Why else would you type it?
Now, perhaps my guess is wrong. Perhaps you love Obama…appreciate his
oratory as well as the moral character of Wright as well as their
association. Perhaps you find their soul and music to be attractive.
Is this the case? (..he said tongue in cheek)

Of course, even though I’m interested in Japan, modern and ancient, I
only know that their music came from China. My ignorance shows yet
again when it comes to “the soul and music of language” in this
context. Teacher?.....
