Most infants arrive as squallers- intent upon survival though they have no notion of this tactic. The mother's milk begins to flow at the signal of her newborn- even a stranger bambino can trigger this reaction. All of this is instinctual and part of a bonding between mother and child. Nevermind all the deviations...:-). As the infant stumbles towards cognizance in the early years patterns emerge of what works and what doesn't in order to get his/her desires/whims met. Depending upon the family, certain patterns become fixed though they mutate as the years go by into appropriate behaviors and responses but that doesn't mean they basically change- it just becomes harder to throw a tantrum!
