I don't think it works that way too well.  There's too much evidence
for the reality that illusions and falsehoods, regardless the purity
of the intent, eventually lead to pain and loss for the one being
fooled.  For instance, I'd prefer the brutal reality that I'm dying of
some terrible disease that will make my last days and hours miserable
than discovering it unbeknownst to me.  The shock of the latter would
likely render me numb and unable to function whereas knowing in
advance allows me to prepare in whatever way I can.
