The new rules, which have been sent to bishops around the world, apply equally to Catholic women who agree to a ceremony of ordination and to the bishop who conducts it. Both would be excommunicated. Since the Vatican does not accept that women can become priests, it does not recognize the outcome of any such ceremony. The theory that women are evil and to be dominated and controlled is still manifested in attitudes held my many men today. I've met more men than I care to who believe women are to be kept barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. There are also many men who believe it was a major mistake for women to be given the right to hold property, inherit her husband's property, vote, hold office, and other such denials of basic rights. What's even more astounding is that there are a substantial number of women who agree with this virtual enslavement. Given the eons old animosity between men and women, I have to ask how any rational person can expect our species to carry on when one half of it fears / hates the other half.
