It must be terrible to believe that humankind is on a road to perdition and destruction, especially when just the opposite is true. There was a time in the not that distant past when we as a species bristled at each other with massive amount of nuclear weapons. It was the first time in our history when we truly had the ability to destroy all life, including ourselves, on this planet. But we survived and are now in the process of eliminating nuclear weapons. Also the advent of modern technology together with social and moral developments have made conventional warfare obsolete. Except for small isolated battlefields around the globe, the days when we sent massive armies against each other till no one was left standing are over. However, we are faced with what I think will be continual guerrilla activity (i.e., terrorism) since there will be -- at least for the foreseeable future -- groups and individuals who are sufficiently disgruntled to resort to violence to resolve their issues. But that aside, it is my perspective that we are entering an era of peace such as the human species has never known. We now hold our wars by proxy in the economic and entertainment spheres of activity. Sports and economics are becoming the new arenas of warfare in which individuals so inclined can release and expend their violence by proxy.
