Hoi Ash
As for AA I was brought up in the old school no treatment centers (I had no
money) and just came in the old fashion way don't drink and get to
meetings. I learned to live in the present I only agreed not to drink for
24 hrs at a time and if I had problems I had a pocket full of phone numbers
and a couple of quarters wrapped in foil so I would not accidental spend
them and I went to meetings every night. they gave me little things to do to
make me feel part of the group. and over time I learned the twelve steps
listening to stories (a lot of them were bullshit but that didn't matter.

What I learned was that i did not need alcohol and coke was a valid drink,
(I know stupid but I always thought a drink had to have alcohol in it) and
that I was Okay even as sick as I was and people actually liked me despite
my character defects. I also learned that the twelve steps were simple
guide post for living a sober life, and it allowed me to put my life back to
some semblance of order.

I owe AA a great debt and the way they provided for me is to help others
when asked.. As for my length of sobriety when I started there were three
people who where there (at the time) there was Pete with 36 years of
sobriety and then there was rePete with 35 years (he had a slip) and there
was Marion who had 32 years (I think of her and i break into tears)

When I celebrated my first year of soberity Pete and rePete approached me
and asked me if I knew how they got 35 and 36 year of sobriety and like a
dummy I said Noandthey laughed "Exactly the same way you get one,,, one day
at a time.

If you are having a problem or the best way to experience experience it isgo
to meetings stick your dollar in the pot, grab a cup or two of coffee and
have a seat. The best meetings are before and after the regular meetings
