Your post is a great example of how to "keep it simple", Allan. Some people I've known had to be confined until they sobered up- de-tox. Treatment centers/"spas" started to bloom in the '70s and the best are extremely expensive- have heard figures of $5,000. a week or $30,000. a month a few years ago.
I am not that unusual in developing a problem later on though I started out in Al-Anon. Addiction is a family disease, afterall. Most of the marriages from that group we started ended in divorce and an important issue treatment hopes to address is family dysfunction so family members are included. While AA stresses "one day at a time" regarding sobriety, the advice also works for those of us dealing with the wreakage.
