I have long wondered how we might live, say, more like the Amish without the religious baggage. The kibbutz is something of an example. Mice that have lived isolated lives show no interest in new mice (they are generally very social creatures) and we know a physical brain adaptation is involved in this. I suspect the affluence in privacy capitalist ideal has changed us physically and the globalised travel and its diseases are hitting harder than we know. Diabetes and obesity may be linked to our exposure to global conditions than we realise. We know flu and stuff like swine-flu affect immune systems and create defence mechanisms that also attack our normal functioning elsewhere in the body.
Did you make the video Andrew? I often feel we could have a go at something beyond text alone on a collaborative basis to change how we do argument and build up a 'resource cabinet' of educational thingies and maybe stuff like collective novels.
