Oddly Neil I have only seen one religion that has critical fellowship . That
seems to lay within the orthodox communities. As fir the gooey donkey nodding
as proof I agree with you but the donkey nodding is also rampant with in
science.

When I read the bible (sitting on the side of a highway starving to death.. I
mean involuntary fasting) what I read was totally different than what I was
told it said. An interesting book is the Gospel of Thomas. Now he was actually
an apostle of Jesus. If that is true it is the only gospel actually recorded
from a true apostle. Now Matthew Mark Luke and John were all written some 60
years after Jesus death by followers of Paul (Saul if Tarus) so it is
automatically slanted. Non if the writers actually knew Jesus that includes
Paul.
The Gospel of Thomas us actually of coptic tradition .. which is not really
recognized by western & orthodox traditions. The truth is that I know very
little about the coptic tradition.

There us something about donkey nodding tgat makes me wanna puck.

Do not murder, rape, enslave or harm others

Biology has changing temperament as very difficult RP. I've never thought
much of shifting heavy stones about for science or religion. The point of
anthropology for me is to work out just how stone age we remain. Science
wins hands down for me against religion of any kind, but only up to a
point. There's a lot of stuff that isn't science that has fairytales -
sort of basic fictions aimed more at ways if living rather than the
empirical adequacy of science. Freud's 'depressive' rather than
'paranoid-schizoid' position to view the world is one example - and rather
like RP's.

The problem that arises for me in most religion is lack of critical
fellowship and the presence of gooey nodding donkey agreement as proof. I
regularly meet people who have read even less of the Bible than me saying
it is wonderful. I am not sure the real fairytales of religion are made
clear at all in the way they are examined in science.
