This part of the discussion is concerning identifying the hardware via uname -m. The MSYSTEM variable only affects the uname -s output for the name of the kernel. You will still be able to use "plain mingw.org GCC on win64" as you do today. And you can specify the triplet you need to the --host configure parameter.
