With a leak (found the hose off behind the dash), I showed something like 11.5
mpg. Now I'm showing around 30 - 31 mpg, and getting about 27 - 28 when I
check trip odometer vs. gas pump readings. It makes a decent approximation,
but shows roughly 10% optimism on my '87 GTi 16v.
Car is just shy of 219,000 miles, and still dead stock (do have aftermarket
exhaust now, but engine has NEVER been touched internally). I'll accept that
level of accuracy, given the method of calculation used.

Same here....

Someone on the list said it may be a loose/broken vacuum hose on back of the
intake manifold..
I have yet to find such a vacuum leak.

Anyone else averaging 99.9 mpg?

Mine is way off in the opposite direction. I have a .79 5th gear and
cruising down the highway at 75-80 mph it tells me I am getting 45 mpg (I
wish). I don't know if there is such a thing as too much vaccum or the 5th
gear swap is throwing it off..
